Jay Z Uses Scavenger Hunt To Reveal Magna Carta Track List

By on Sunday, June 23, 2013

Today Jay Z has gone back and used the same technique he used to promote his Decoded book years ago. A scavenger hunt across his home city, New York.

Jay Z has already signed a $20million deal with Samsung – making him the first person to go platinum before releasing anything. Samsung therefore get first dibs on 1 million copies that go out to all their loyal S3, S4 and Note owners 72 hours before anyone else in the world who can stream it to their hearts content via an app making leaking the songs impossible.

As the days for release (4th July) get closer, people are getting impatient. So this simple st-hunt was set up whereby an unknown member of Jay’s team who goes by @jjmonster began using Twitter and Instagram to lure New York fans to various Brooklyn locations with promises of a prize.

Fans went cray and flocked from all over New York to get their hands on a 1 of 100 binder which contained the titles of all of MCHG‘s tracks.

#MagnaCarta trended worldwide, the track listing is now on every website you can think of from Digital Spy and Huffington Post to MTV, Rolling Stones and the Metro.

The PR stunt has all been put on the official Magna Carta Holy Grail Instagram page, for those who didn’t get a copy or live elsewhere to see what they missed out on.

One fan posted a vine-style video:

The others were snapped with the binders (which will probably be available for thousands on eBay soon…)
