Retail Therapy – IKEA renames products based on Google searches of relationship problems

They’re a cheeky lot at IKEA aren’t they? Previous campaigns have seen them offer free baby furniture to babies conceived on Valentine’s Day and this time they Swedish company is taking a swipe at anyone that Googles their relationships problems.
The campaign has been a hit on Twitter by literally putting the ‘therapy’ in retail therapy! Products include the ‘how to make long distance relationships work’ cardboard box, the ‘my family doesn’t respect me’ Queen costume and the ‘how to say I’m not interested’ garlic press.
I love this campaign for so many reasons – not least of which is that it would have cost them practically nothing to do! This innovative use of Google Adwords data is something I wouldn’t be surprised to see other brands jump onto after the online success of this campaign.
Another great example of how sometimes the simplest ideas can be the best.
