Starbucks responds to Game of Thrones “coffee cup” gaffe
By Georgina Vincent on Tuesday, May 7, 2019
During yesterday’s episode of the fantasy hit show Game of Thrones, many eagle-eyed viewers spotted a Starbucks’ cup left within shot. In a great example of excellent community management, Starbucks have now responded on social media to the gaffe, capitalising on the free publicity in a humorous thread.
The scene in question saw a number of key cast members come together for a feast complete with genre appropriate wine flagons, goblets and ale horns. One accidental Starbucks cup however, left near the show’s Mother of Dragons herself, stood out like a sore thumb amongst the other traditionally medieval props.
In response, the coffee chain has taken to social media with a post which thus far has received over 50,000 engagements with fans of the brand and show.
TBH we’re surprised she didn’t order a Dragon Drink.

Riffing off the initial post the company have continued to engage with commentators using the mistake to highlight the brand’s “Dragon drink” and pass witty comments on key points from the programme to the delight of their followers.
