London Zoo celebrates same sex penguin couples for Pride 2019

London Zoo is celebrating Pride 2019 by shining a spotlight on their resident gay penguins.
Coinciding with the city’s main Pride Parade held over the weekend of July 5th, the zoo will be hosting a party for their gay penguins complete with banners reading “some penguins are gay, get over it” in an homage to Stonewall’s ground-breaking campaign.
The move comes after two of their male penguins, Ronnie and Reggie, famously adopted an egg that was abandoned by another couple back in 2015.
A spokesperson for the zoo said: ‘The pair shared parenting duties of their chick, Kyton, until he fledged the nest. They remain as strong as ever and are often found snuggled up in their nest box together. The duo share their home with 91 other penguins, including fellow same-sex couples Nadja and Zimmer, and Dev and Martin.’
