World-renowned street artist Banksy has surprised fellow Bristol residents with a Valentine’s Day themed mural.

The Bristol-based graffiti artist published a picture of the striking work on his Instagram at midnight on Valentine’s Day after locals spotted the street art early Thursday morning.

The work, located on the side of a house in Barton Hill, portrays a young girl holding a fired slingshot towards an explosion of red ivy.

Kelly Woodruff, daughter of the property owner, told the BBC: “I kind of like the Valentine’s theme with it… it’s really special and to have it in 3D with the flowers is incredible.”

Local council member Afzal Shah told the BBC that the piece could, “Potentially attract great tourism and interest, which will be welcomed by local residents, community groups, and, of course, local businesses.”

Last summer, Port Talbot saw more than 20,000 visitors over three weeks after Banksy was credited for a mural in the Welsh town. Additionally, local shop owners benefited through selling personalised souvenirs and merchandise of the painting.
