Ikea creates disassembly instructions for their best-selling furniture

In its efforts to make “circular consumption mainstream” and improve their sustainability, Ikea has created disassembly instructions for their most popular furniture.
The guides are available online on the Ikea UK website for six of their products such as the Billy bookcase and are in the style of the instantly recognisable pictorial assembly manuals.
By making it easier for people to disassemble their products it will make it easier for customers to pass on products by “repairing, reusing, reselling and recycling them” says Hege Sæbjørnsen who country sustainability manager at Ikea UK.
When stores reopen, Ikea’s other initiative to improve sustainability is Buy Back which will allow customers to sell their Ikea furniture back to the company.
So, if you want to join many others in re-organising and re-furnishing your home taking place during lockdown no fear as with these guides you can take apart your much loved Ikea furniture and pass them to a new home.
