As Lockdown eases, environmental group Surfers Against Sewage launch UK’s ‘biggest-ever beach clean-up’

The environmental group Surfers Against Sewage has asked the public to take part in a huge beach clean. Hoping to involve 100,000 people across the UK, their goal is for it to be the largest ever beach clean in the country.
A 50-metre drawing of seal was made in the sand on the beach at Cayton Bay in Yorkshire to launch the clean.
The group is asking for each of their volunteers to walk 10 miles by the end of the year, where they will be picking up litter from their local beaches, parks, rivers or streets. If they are successful, a “million miles” of rubbish will be cleared.
Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation (IFCF) has teamed up with the charity to support them for the next three years, with Richard Walker, the managing director of IFCF, stressing what a great opportunity the beach clean is.
Surfers Against Sewage are looking for “clean leaders” who will run events and register participants, ahead of the campaign starting on 15 May. They believe the clean will benefit the volunteers’ wellbeing and strengthen their connection to their local environment.
