The ‘zero star hotel’ where a sleepless night is encouraged

Have you ever had a sleepless night thinking about the world’s current climate? Well, Swiss artists have taken this to the extreme by creating a ‘zero-star hotel’ offering sleepless nights to ponder world crises.
The Riklin brother’s hotel room is a double bed on a platform fitted with two bedside tables and lamps, everything you would find in a standard hotel room. However, with this room, which has been described as if it has fallen from the sky, has no walls, ceilings, or doors. A complete lack of privacy.
The Swiss concept artists’ hotel room is located on a roadside next to a petrol station in Saillon a village in the southern Swiss canton of Valais. Their intention is for guests to have a deep think about the problems in the world, such as climate change and war, as they have said themselves ‘now is not the time to sleep, we have to react’.

This isn’t their first art instillation as the brothers have taken over other idyllic sites, but this is their first ‘anti-idyllic’ site.

‘Sleep is not the point,’ said Frank Riklin. ‘What’s important is reflecting about the current world situation. Staying here is a statement about the need for urgent changes in society.’
The null stern suites – German for zero star – which have been produced with hotelier Daniel Charbonnier feature in slightly more idyllic locations such as a vineyard and picturesque hillside.
The price for a sleepless night in the null stern suites also equipped with a butler service is 325 Swiss francs (£276) and available from July 1 to September 18.
