Leviathan Axe appears on Southbank in PS5 stunt

Sony placed a giant replica of the Leviathan Axe from the video game God of War on London’s Southbank yesterday to celebrate the end of the PlayStation 5 shortage.
The axe is Greek God Kratos’ weapon of choice in the action adventure video game franchise. The latest game in the series is God of War: Ragnarok, which when released late last year sold a staggering 5.1 million copies in its first week available (between the PS4 and PS5 versions).
The axe will remain on the Southbank in Central London until Tuesday evening, whilst another has been spotted at the Lotte World ice rink in Jamsil, South Korea.
The campaign also included Sony thanking fans for their “patience” after shortages of the machine arose due to an “unprecedented demand for the PS5 console amid global challenges.” When the PS5 was released in 2020 fans found it very difficult to purchase the new console following a worldwide supply issue.
Earlier in the year, Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation stated that the shortages were over, with the company reporting that 30 million units had sold since the PS5 was released.
