Give breast cancer the red card

This past Saturday, the UKs largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now, reminded us that we could get an even bigger win than the coveted FIFA World Cup trophy.
On the morning of the Women’s World Cup, Breast Cancer Now (in partnership with BMB), reminded us “we can beat more than just Spain” simply by checking our breasts more regularly. And they are right. At the moment, whether we are just too scared of what we might find or have genuinely forgotten, as a nation we definitely aren’t checking enough, with a recent survey revealing that 2 in 5 women don’t check their breasts regularly, if at all.
Breast Cancer Now’s message is simple. It doesn’t matter how you check, as long as you do it. ‘Know your normal’ – a refreshing message for those who may find the medical jargon and ‘rules’ surrounding self checks off putting.
The image itself centres around a bird’s eye view of the instantly recognisable centre circle on a football pitch. Look a bit closer however, and you will notice the discolouration and distortion at the bottom left side of the circle – a couple of the many signs and symptoms to look out for when checking your chest.
The ad is a gentle nudge amidst all the football excitement this weekend of the bigger battles that are also worth facing and with ‘by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live’ as an action plan, it really does feel like winning.
Check your boobs, babes!
